Lady Lions sunk by late 3-pointers

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — The No. 7 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions mounted a furious comeback, but the last two made shots by the No. 8 Georgetown College Tigers connected from beyond to arc. Despite leading in most statistical categories, the Lady Lions fell 70-65.

The first quarter was a good one for the Lady Lions (17-2, 1-2 MSC) by allowing just two field goals in the first 10 minutes. Meanwhile, Brooklyn Crouch and Kaylee Odom opened with a set of jumpers. Lillly Kee took over in the final minute, tallying back-to-back buckets to finish the first quarter with the Lady Lions leading 15-6.

The hosting Tigers (17-1, 3-0 MSC) had a set of big runs in the second quarter to reset the score. After an 8-0 run, they followed up with a seven-point streak to out-score FHU 27-13. By the end of the first half Georgetown led 33-28.

Though Carissa Curtis opened the third quarter with a triple, GC kept the momentum strong by extending their lead to 13. The Lady Lions then dominated in the paint with Rachel Satterly joining Odom and Kee on a 14-point run to stun the Tigers to take a 47-46 lead. Late free throws from Georgetown ended the quarter With GC leading 54-47.

Kee tacked on a pair of jumpers with one at 6:18 knotting the game 57-57. From there, GC and FHU swapped scores with Curtis's 3-pointer being followed by back-to-back triples from Georgetown. The Tigers were able to hit their free throw to keep it a two-possession game until the 70-65 final.

The Lady Lions led with 44% shooting to GC's 39% while also out-rebounding the Tigers 32-28. The biggest differential came with Georgetown connecting for seven 3-pointers while the Lady Lions hit two.

Lilly Kee was 9-10 from the field to score a team-high 20 points. Kaylee Odom followed with 14 points while Jenna Satterly added 12. Carissa Curtis connected for both FHU long balls to help her to 10 points. Odom led at the glass with eight rebounds with Kelsey Bender tallying three blocks.
