HENDERSON — The No. 7 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions hosted the No. 3 Campbellsville University Tigers Thursday night. The perennial powerhouse Tigers forced a plethora of turnovers to hand the Lady Lions a 71-52 loss.
Freed-Hardeman (17-3, 1-3 MSC) got started with a 3-pointer from
Carissa Curtis, but the Tigers had a perfect start to the game, going 5-5 including a set of triples to jump out to a 13-5 lead at 7:28.
Kelsey Bender's layup was followed by a long ball from
Rachel Satterly, but the Campbellsville start had the Lady Lions trailing 19-11 after the opening frame.
The Tigers (18-0, 4-0 MSC) had solid ball movement in the second quarter with six different players recording points. Though the Lady Lions had sparks of offense from 3-pointers out of Curtis,
Kelsey Bender, and
Jenna Satterly, Campbellsville ended the half on a 7-0 run to lead 42-28 at the break.
CU kept momentum in the third quarter, holding FHU scoreless the first four minutes of the second half while jumping ahead to a 51-28 edge.
Lilly Kee sank a jumper in the final seconds to make the score 55-38 moving to the final frame.
Freed-Hardeman had their biggest quarters in the second and fourth, tallying 17 points in each. FHU out-scored Campbellsville 17-13 in the final quarter, but the damage was done in the 71-52 defeat.
The Tigers forced 25 Lady Lion turnovers, turning those into 22 points. FHU forced 18 turnovers to score eight. FHU out-rebounded the opposition 33-24 while swatting four blocks to Campbellsville's two.
FHU was led by
Jenna Satterly, who went 5-6 from the charity stripe to help her to 12 points, while
Kaylee Odom was also 5-6 to aid her to score 11 points.
Brooklyn Crouch grabbed a team-high five rebounds while
Carissa Curtis had three steals.
