LEBANON, Tenn. — The No. 8 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions exorcised some demons by knocking down 11 3-pointers to help them to a 72-42 league win over the Cumberland Phoenix.
After
Carissa Curtis got the Lady Lions (19-3, 3-3 MSC) on the board with a set of free throws before sinking a 3-pointer to take a 7-2 lead.
Rachel Satterly joined with a triple before
Kaylee Odom wrapped up the first quarter with a layup to hold a 14-6 lead after the first 10 minutes.
The CU Phoenix (8-12, 0-5 MSC) were held to just four made field goals in the second frame while the Lady Lions pushed points with five straight points from
Kelsey Bender.
Lilly Kee chipped in with back-to-back layups before Curtis and
Jenna Satterly sank 3-pointers to end the first half with a 31-15 lead.
Though the first four points were scored by Cumberland, it was an 11-0 run to push the Lady Lions to a 51-27 lead moving into the final quarter.
The Lady Lions again had their best quarter in the last 10, scoring 21 points.
Alaina Stiles came into the game to tally a layup before she joined R. Satterly with back-to-back 3-pointers. Kee added five more points before Stiles and Curtis put the cherry on the top of the 72-42 victory.
FHU's defense was stout, allowing CU to make just 12 field goals, holding the opposition to 25.5% shooting. The Lady Lion bench scored 28 points while Cumberland's scored four.
Carissa Curtis and
Rachel Satterly shared the team-high of 13 points. Curtis was two board shy of a double-double with a team-high eight rebounds. Satterly swiped four steals while Brooklyn Couch led the way with five assists.

With the first half of the MSC slate over, the Lady Lions will take what they've learned and run it back first against No. 3 Campbellsville on February 6 at 4:30 p.m.
