MARIETTA, Ga. — In the opening game of the Life U Classic, the No. 6 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions out-scored the Brewton-Paker Christian (Ga.) University Barons 22-7 in the first quarter, to help push FHU to a 68-44 victory.
Though the Barons scored first, the Lady Lions (6-0) scored the next 11 points, with
Carissa Curtis and
Rachel Satterly each bucketing 3-pointers, before
Brooklyn Crouch's old-fashioned three-point play gave FHU an 11-2 lead. After
Jenna Satterly tallied six points, Crouch finished the quarter with a 3-pointer, to give the Lady Lions the 22-7 first-quarter lead.
Crouch would open the second quarter with back-to-back layups, while the FHU defense forced consistent bad shots, by holding Brewton-Parker Christian (0-5) to two made field goals in the second quarter. On the offensive end,
Lilly Kee tallied back-to-back layups, before Crouch's steal and score pushed the Lady Lions to a 36-13 halftime lead.
Ally Weathers opened the second half with a layup, before the Lady Lions scored seven points from the free-throw line. Couch collected another 3-pointer, to help FHU to a 54-31 lead.
Curtis tallied another set of triples in the fourth quarter, while
Alaina Stiles hit three late free throws to secure the 68-44 victory.
The Lady Lions held the Barons to a 14-58 mark from the floor, while forcing 19 turnovers. FHU turned those into 21 points off of turnovers.
Brooklyn Crouch led the FHU offense with 18 points, with
Lilly Kee following with 14 points.
Jenna Satterly registered 10 points in the victory. Kee led FHU at the glass with seven rebounds, while J. Satterly and
Ally Weathers each had three assists.
