MARIETTA, Ga. — In their final game of the LifeU Classic, the No. 6 Freed-Hardeman Univesrity Lady Lions dominated both ends of the floor to defeat the Life (Ga.) University Running Eagles 77-35.
Of Freed-Hardeman's (8-0) 20 first-quarter points, 18 of those came from the paint.
Ally Weathers and
Lilly Kee got the game going for the Lady Lions with
Rachel Satterly and
Jenna Satterly joining the fray to push the Lady Lions on an 8-0 run in the middle of the quarter.
Brooklyn Crouch ended the quarter with a layup to give FHU a 20-11 lead after the first 10 minutes.
After the Running Eagles (4-1) stayed within 10 points most of the first quarter, FHU began to pull away in the second frame with
Alaina Stiles' 3-pointer capping a 10-point run to give FHU a 30-13 lead. R. Satterly's steal and score opened another FHU run: this time for six points. Kee and Weathers added late buckets to make the lead over 20 points to end the first half with a 40-19 advantage.
Though Life came out of the locker room with four points, the jumper at 7:49 would be the last score for the Running Eagles in the third quarter. Meanwhile, the Satterly sisters anchored a 16-0 run that helped end the quarter with FHU leading 61-23.Â
The Lady Lion defense held strong by forcing Life to go 1-17 from the floor across the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth. Offensively,
Jocy May and JB Clifton joined the score book, with the latter's 3-pointer pushing FHU's lead to 44 points. Late baskets from FHU finished the scoring on the 77-35 win.
The Lady Lions shot 55.2% from the floor while holding Life to a 21.4% afternoon. FHU forced 14 turnovers and collected 27 points off of those turnovers. FHU had 11 more assists than Life in the big win.
Rachel Satterly went 8-10 from the floor to bucket a team-high 18 points with
Lilly Kee following with 14.
Jenna Satterly tallied 12 points, just ahead of
Ally Weathers' 10-point game. Kee and Weathers led FHU with seven rebounds each while
Brooklyn Crouch dished out four assists.
