CONWAY, Ark. — While 31 of Central Baptist (Ark.) College's 69 points came from two players, the No. 5 Freed-Hardeman University Lions had five different players record at least 10 points as FHU claimed a 103-69 victory in Arkansas.
Freed-Hardeman (8-1) struck hard and fast with
DJ McIntyre hitting 3-pointers on both ends of a 10-0 run that ended with the Lions leading 18-8 a little more than five minutes into the contest.
Rico Sain would then score six of the next eight points for the maroon and white to help FHU outscore Central Baptist 15-3 across three minutes. The Mustangs drove into the paint to score back-to-back layups, but
Jailen Anderson and
Jamarcus Powell swung momentum back to FHU at the end of the half with layups to give FHU a 44-26 lead at the break.
Sam Powell opened the second frame with a 3-pointer, then Sain added to his total with a layup to make the Lion lead 23 points over the Central Baptist (2-5) Mustangs. Freed-Hardeman spent a significant amount of the second half at the charity stripe, going a perfect 12-12 in the second 20.
Phil Horton's layup at 7:27 gave FHU its largest lead at 36 points. Though CBC hit three triples in the final five minutes, FHU's big lead was enough to claim the 103-69 win.
The Lions grabbed 17 steals while dishing out the same amount of assists in the victory. FHU's bench outscored the Mustangs 39-13.
Rico Sain led FHU's scoring with his season's second 20-plus point game and fourth consecutive in double figures.
Phil Horton had his campaign's second double-double with 16 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Sam Powell chipped in with 16 points while
DJ McIntyre and
Jamarcus Powell each tallied 11 points.
