Wos' career-high lifts FHU to league win

HENDERSON — In the penultimate match of the 2025 regular season, the Lady Lions of Freed-Hardeman University leaned on Iza Wos' career-best 15 kills to defeat the Georgetown College Tigers 3-1 (25-19, 25-15, 18-25, 25-18) on Thursday.

Audrey Orton got things started for the Lady Lions (18-14, 3-8 MSC) with back-to-back kills before an Autumn Howard service ace gave FHU an early 4-1 lead. After the Tigers rallied to take the lead, FHU scored five straight points to jump ahead 10-6. Marija Milic tallied back-to-back aces to set up Wos for a kill that pushed the Lady Lions ahead 16-9. FHU had its best swings in the opening frame, recording a match-high 15 kills in the set.

Another fast start put the Lady Lions ahead of the Tigers (4-21, 0-11 MSC) 5-1 after an Avery Young service ace. FHU forged ahead with back-to-back kills from Milic to extend the lead to 14-6. Neither team allowed a long scoring run down the stretch, but a tandem block from Wos and Allie Lowhorn sealed the second set 25-15 and put the Lady Lions up 2-0.

Georgetown avoided the sweep in the third set, opening with a 7-2 run to force an early FHU timeout. The Lady Lions were never able to climb all the way back, hitting just .053 in the frame as the Tigers forced a fourth set with a 25-18 win.

To swing momentum back in their favor, FHU opened the fourth set with five unanswered points, sparked by kills from Wos, Young and Orton. The set remained tight until another Milic service ace closed it out 25-18, giving the Lady Lions the 3-1 match victory.

Wos finished with a career-high 15 kills on 21 swings, while Orton followed with 11 kills. Young led FHU with 16 digs, and Alyssa Austin posted a team-high 26 assists.
