Weathers' double-double leads FHU to victory

HENDERSON — In her final home game of the 2025 calendar year, Ally Weathers registered her first double-double to push the No. 7 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions to victory, 71-45, over the (RV) Grand View (Iowa) University Vikings.

Despite the guests scoring the first points of the game, Weathers tallied five straight points to spark a 9-0 Lady Lion (12-0) run that ended with Jenna Satterly's free throw giving FHU a 9-2 lead. A set of GVU 3-pointers helped pull the Vikings within one point by the end of the quarter with FHU leading 14-13.

Brooklyn Crouch joined Weathers with long balls to start the second quarter with Grand View (10-4) bucketing a pair of early jumpers. The basket at 7:11 was the last field goal for the Vikings in the first half, with the Lady Lions forcing the opposition to go 0-8 from the floor the remainder of the half. On their end of the floor, Carissa Curtis' 3-pointer was sandwiched by layups from J. Satterly and Weathers to help FHU to a 30-22 halftime lead.

FHU kept the pressure in the second half with Rachel Satterly joining the fray with a triple before Lilly Kee's layup at 6:26 gave the Lady Lions a double-figure lead they would maintain the remainder of the contest. Kee scored FHU's final four points of the third quarter to give the Lady Lions a 50-37 lead.

The Lady Lions continued their good shooting from beyond the arc with 3-pointers from J. Satterly and Weathers before Jocy May's 3-pointer was followed by her jumper in the paint to finalize the 71-45 victory.

Despite turning the ball over 10 times, the Lady Lions were never fazed, not allowing a single point off of those turnovers. Meanwhile, FHU scored 17 points off 14 forced turnovers.

While Ally Weathers' double-double was highlighted by season-highs of 15 points and 10 rebounds, it was Jenna Satterly's 17 points that led all scorers. Lilly Kee followed with 14 points. Brooklyn Crouch, Rachel Satterly, and Alaina Stiles shared the team-high of three assists.
