Ladies wrap perfect 2025 half of season

UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. — The No. 6 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions finished the first half of their 2025-26 season undefeated for the second straight season after defeating the Governors State (Ill.) University Jaguars 63-34 on Tuesday.

Lilly Kee excelled in the paint to start the contest for the Lady Lions (14-0), tallying eight points in the first quarter. After Brooklyn Crouch and Jenna Satterly added layups, it was Alaina Stiles' 3-pointer that gave the Lady Lions a 15-6 edge at the end of the first period.

The second quarter was the best for the hosting Jaguars (8-7), scoring 13 points while allowing just one run of four points at the end of the half. Ally Weathers and Crouch each bucketed triples to assist FHU to a 29-19 halftime lead.

FHU's strong defense showed in the third quarter, not allowing a successful field goal for 9:15 of action. In the time span, Satterly bucketed another pair of 3-pointers to help her score 10 points and lead FHU to a 48-28 lead after three complete quarters.

The Lady Lion defense did not slow down, allowing only two field goals in the final frame to hold GSU to 4-24 shooting from the floor in the second half. On the offensive end of the floor, Rachel Satterly joined with a 3-pointer before J. Satterly tallied the final five points of the 63-34 victory.

Jenna Satterly led the charge with 17 points while Lilly Kee was hot on her heels with 16. Ally Weathers chipped in with 12 points while Elli Chumley and Brooklyn Crouch shared a team-high four assists.

The Lady Lions have one more non-conference tuneup before beginning the gauntlet of Mid-South Conference action. After visiting Bryan (Tenn.) College on January 3, FHU will play five straight games against MSC opponents that are at least mentioned in the top-25 poll featuring the No. 3 Campbellsville Tigers and the top-ranked Bethel Wildcats.
