Curtis' fast start gives Lady Lions big win

HENDERSON — In the penultimate home game of the 2025 calendar year, the No. 7 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions were led by Carissa Curtis' 17 points to victory, 72-40, over the Fisk (Tenn.) University Bulldogs.

Curtis outscored the opposition in the first quarter alone, scoring the first eight of the Lady Lions' (11-0) points while FHU's defense held Fisk to just five points in the opening frame. Jenna Satterly chipped in with four points before Brooklyn Crouch's layup pushed FHU to an 18-5 lead after the first quarter.

Rachel Satterly began the second quarter with a layup to begin an 8-0 run that put the Lady Lions on top of the Bulldogs (4-6) 26-5. Back-to-back triples from Curtis and R. Satterly put the lead at the largest of the first half at 28 points. J. Satterly and Jocy May ended the half with layups to put the FHU intermission lead at 40-15.

Though Kee and Curtis opened the second half with a layup and a 3-pointer, respectively, it was R. Satterly's free throw that opened up a nine-point run to give the Lady Lions a 34-point edge, their largest of the night. Fisk added back-to-back triples before Crouch ended the quarter at a score of 56-26 with a pair of free throws.

Utilizing the end of their bench for a majority of the final ten minutes, JB Clifton and May ended the contest with 3-pointers to finalize the 72-40 victory.

The Lady Lion ball-movement was on full display in the win, combining for 17 assists while holding Fisk to four. 

Carissa Curtis led FHU in both points and rebounds with 17 and eight, respectively. Jenna Satterly and Rachel Satterly each tallied 10 points while R. Satterly led FHU with a career-high seven assists.

The Lady Lions will host the (RV) Grand View (Iowa) University Vikings on December 16 before traveling to Illinois to participate in the Governors State Winter Classic. First playing the Pikeville (Ky.) University Bears on December 29 before closing the 2025 half of the season on December 30 against the (RV) Governors State (Ill.) University Jaguars.
