Women's basketball escapes quarterfinal with victory

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Despite trailing by seven points with five minutes remaining in the quarterfinal of the Mid-South Conference Tournament, the No. 7 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions stormed back to defeat the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders 48-46.

The third seeded Lady Lions (25-4) set up their presence in the paint with a bundle of layups from Kaylee Odom, Kelsey Bender, Lilly Kee, and Brookly Crouch to help push FHU to a five-point lead. After trading free throws, FHU ended the first quarter with a 12-6 lead.

In the second frame the No. 6 seed Blue Raiders (16-13) did significant damage from the charity stripe, scoring six of their 15 points from the line. On the other side of the floor, Jenna Satterly's 3-pointer was one of two field goals for the Lions in a quarter where they only scored six points. With a jumper at 2:54 LWC took their first lead before a 21-18 score in favor of Lindsey Wilson ended the first half.

The good news for the Lady Lions was that they scored a game-high 17 points in the third quarter. The bad news was that the Blue Raiders also scored a game-high of 19 points. A 3-pointer at 7:51 opened a seven-point run put LWC on top 33-25. Satterly and Crouch teamed up in the late minutes to score six late points to end the quarter trailing 40-35.

FHU's defense allowed just three layups in the fourth quarter with their last bucket coming at 5:33 with Lindsey Wilson leading 46-39. Rachel Satterly would connect for a free throw before Odom bucketed two layups. R. Satterly would sink two free throws to tie the game with 1:48 left. The Blue Raiders missed the last nine shots they attempted, but J. Satterly's layup with :23 left was true to give the Lady Lions the 48-46 win.

The Lady Lions dropped 30 points in the paint to the Blue Raiders' 18.

Kaylee Odom led the Lady Lions with 13 points while Kelsey Bender grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
