WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Opening the Mid-South Conference schedule, the Freed-Hardeman Lions had a tall task against the No. 16 University of the Cumberlands Patriots. The Lions won the doubles point but fell in the dual match 6-1.
The doubles paring of
Merlin Bolema/
Maxime Guyon won the first match for FHU (4-6, 0-1 MSC) before
Pablo Poleo/
Quentin Ferron secured the point with a 7-5 victory.
Two of the doubles matches required a tiebreak set with
Maxime Guyon winning the first set against the Cumberlands' (10-6, 1-0 MSC) nationally ranked singles player. The Patriot came back to win the No. 2 court 5-7, 6-3, 10-3.
Quentin Ferron fell behind by a set but battled back, ultimately falling on No. 3 court 6-1, 2-6, 10-3.
Merlin Bolema fell to a regionally ranked opponent 6-4, 6-2 while
Pablo Poleo lost his match 6-2, 6-0. Both
Nolan Laduree and
Braden Young lost 6-0, 6-1.
