Lady Lions grab two wins in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions earned a set of victories during their Spring Break trip to Florida, first defeating Augustana (Ill.) College Vikings 5-2 before toppling the Highline (Wash.) College Thunderbirds by the same score.

Match 1
Freed-Hardeman def. Augustana; 5-2

The doubles points was clinched with a close matchup in favor of the Lady Lions (4-8) when Morgan Brown/Elise Kruzan won the match in a tiebreak 7-6(5) while Hannah Pearce/Suri Gomez won their match 6-1. Cecily Davis and Kennley Kirk wrapped up the doubles round with a 6-4 victory.

Kruzan fell to her Viking (4-8) opponent 6-2, 6-4 before Morgan Brown took her opponent to a tiebreak set before falling 6-4, 5-7, 1-0(6). Suri Gomez won 6-3, 6-0 while Hannah Pearce took care of her opponent 6-0, 6-1. Kennley Kirk won her court on the No. 6 court 6-2, 6-1. Cecil Davis swept through her charge 6-0, 6-0.

Freed-Hardeman def. Highline 5-2

Freed-Hardeman (5-8) picked up the doubles point thanks to Hannah Pearce/Suri Gomez winning 6-1 and Cecily Davis/Kennley Kirk earning a 6-4 win. Morgan Brown/Elise Kruzan fell to their opponents 6-3.

The Thunderbirds (2-1) picked up their first point on the No. 1 court when Elise Kruzan fell 6-3, 7-6(5). Morgan Brown earned a win 6-1, 6-1 with Suri Gomez continuing her undefeated streak with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Hannah Pearce's 6-0, 6-2 victory gave the Lady Lions the clinching fourth team point while Kennley Kirk's 6-3, 6-3 win added insurance. Cecily Davis fell on the No. 6 Court 6-0, 6-4.
