Lions outlast Tigers in Senior Day marathon

HENDERSON — The Freed-Hardeman University Lions and the Georgetown College Tigers knew the battle they were lining up for when two of the three doubles matches required extra games. Then all six singles matches went the distance before the Lions won the endurance match 4-3.

The Lions (8-10, 2-4 MSC) fell behind a point after falling twice in the doubles round. #31 Merlin Bolema/Maxime Guyon forced a tie-breaker, but lost 7-6(3) while Pablo Poleo/Quentin Ferron fell short 7-5. Carlos Garcia/Nolan Laduree was a bright spot by winning 6-3.

Merlin Bolema was on the losing end of a 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 decision on the No. 1 court before Maxime Guyon claimed a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 comeback victory. Quentin Ferron needed a tie-breaker in the third set but evened the match 2-2 with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(4) win. Nolan Laduree gave the Lions a lead over Georgetown (7-12, 1-5) with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 victory on the No. 5 court.

Down to the last two matches, Pablo Poleo and Carlos Garcia battled back from early deficits. Poleo won the tie-breaker in the second set, but fell 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-4 to see the Tigers knot the match 3-3. Garcia held strong to win the set and match with a 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-2 victory.
