COLUMBIA, Ky. — The No. 2 Freed-Hardeman University Lions kept the hosting Lindsey Wilson University Blue Raiders off the scoreboard for the first seven minutes of the game to lift FHU to a 75-60 victory.
Phil Horton's jumper opened up a 16-point run for Freed-Hardeman (18-1, 3-0 MSC) that included baskets from seven different Lions. With
Lane Lauderbaugh adding a set of layups,
Caleb Thomas then hit all three of his awarded free throws to put the Lions on top 27-7 with 7:05 left in the first half. The Blue Raiders got into gear to end the half on a 14-5 run, but the early start was enough to send FHU to the break leading 32-21.
Out of the break, the Blue Raiders (12-5, 2-1 MSC) continued to chip away at FHU's lead by eventually narrowing it down to three points at the 14:08 mark. Thomas, Horton, and Lauderbaugh would answer with seven unanswered points before
Rodney Henderson joined to put FHU back on top by double digits, 52-39. FHU never allowed the Blue Raiders back within 10 points the remainder of the contest until Lauderbaugh's layup set the final score at 75-60.
FHU nearly doubled LWU's scoring in the paint, 40-22, while forcing 21 turnovers.
Phil Horton got a double-double with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Lane Lauderbaugh's 7-for-12 effort helped him score 15 points while
Rico Sain added 11 points.
