COLUMBIA, Ky. — The No. 5 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions scored 28 points in the fourth quarter; however, the (RV) Lindsey Wilson University Blue Raiders answered with 24 to keep their early lead intact and hand FHU their first loss, 70-63.
The Lady Lions (17-1, 2-1 MSC) had a slow first quarter, hitting just three field goals.
Rachel Satterly and
Ally Weathers also bucketed points from the charity stripe, but LWU's work in the paint saw the Lady Lions trail 16-10 after the first period.
Freed-Hardeman mounted a comeback in the second quarter, with
Jenna Satterly joining R. Satterly and Weathers to put up 11 unanswered points while keeping Lindsey Wilson (15-3, 2-1 MSC) off the board until 5:32. Late baskets gave the hosts a 28-25 halftime lead.
Lilly Kee opened the second half with a layup, before the Satterly sisters hit back-to-back layups to trail the Blue Raiders by two points. That deficit grew with LWU scoring the last nine points of the third quarter and saw FHU trail 46-35 going into the final quarter.
The Lady Lion offense ignited in the final frame with
Brooklyn Crouch and
Elli Chumley joining with layups while J. Satterly and Weathers hit big 3-pointers to pull within one possession. Despite the scoring, the Blue Raiders were able to keep the Lady Lions at bay until the 70-63 final.
Rachel Satterly led the way for FHU with 22 points including five 3-pointers and going 9-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Ally Weathers helped out with 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
