History made as Brown signs to be first Lady Lion flag footballer

ARLINGTON, Tenn. — As head coach Jarred Clayton works to build his inaugural roster for Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion flag football, he has found his cornerstone. Arlington High School quarterback Bailey Brown becomes the first player to sign to suit up in the maroon and white.

Not new to beginning a program, Brown helped lead Arlington to a 9-5 record culminating in the state championships where they lost in the quarterfinals. A multi-sport athlete, Brown began her prep career on the Tigers' varsity girls basketball team before focusing solely on her efforts on the gridiron.

According to an article by Tyler Hill, AHS Chief of Communications and Planning, "As quarterback, Bailey helped guide a young roster to a state championship appearance, and now, she's doing something just as meaningful at the next level.'"

That article then quotes Tiger coach Jeb Jones, "It's just a testament to her character. She plays football with her heart. She's passionate about it. She's a great teammate, a great student and just a great human being."

Hayden Brown, Bailey's father, said "I am mostly excited to see how she grows in her faith there with it being a Christian-based university. But also for the opportunity for her to continue playing a sport she loves in an encouraging Christian environment."

Reminiscing on the official visit, Coach Clayton said, "The comment that hit home came from Bailey's mom, Becca, as we were finishing up the visit. 'This is a family.' As they got in the car and headed home Bailey told her mom, 'I don't want to visit anywhere else!'"

FHU flag football is set to begin action in the spring of 2027.
