WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — The No. 2 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions had 19 points each from
Rachel Satterly and
Jenna Satterly as FHU defeated the No. 15 University of the Cumberlands Patriots, 74-56.
The Patriots got on the board first, but
Ally Weathers' 3-pointer at 7:20 gave the Lady Lions (21-1, 6-1 MSC) a 5-4 lead. From there, the Satterly sisters took over with each connecting for a 3-pointer before
Alaina Stiles chipped in with a triple. J. Satterly's layup at the buzzer put the Lady Lions on top 20-12.
Neither team would connect from long range in the second frame, with the Patriots (17-5, 2-4 MSC) missing all six attempts from beyond the arc.
Lilly Kee's layup at 6:08 gave FHU a double-figure lead, but late points from UC set the halftime score at 30-21 in favor of FHU.
R. Satterly began the second half on a tear with back-to-back 3-pointers before
Brooklyn Crouch had a fast break layup at 7:03. Weathers completed the old-fashioned three-point play at 4:45 to make the Lady Lion lead 15 before the Patriots added points in the final minute. FHU's lead held strong at 49-39 entering the final quarter.
Cumberlands hoped to slow down FHU's offense and force the Lady Lions to shoot free throws. That plan was thwarted by FHU's 76.2% shooting from the line this season. The Lady Lions went 7-8 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter while R. Satterly and Crouch continued to rain down buckets from long range. J. Satterly's free throw with 11 seconds finalized the score on the 74-56 FHU win.
The Lady Lions shot 46% from the floor while connecting for 10 3-pointers.Â
Rachel Satterly had five 3-pointers to help her score 19 points while
Jenna Satterly went 6-12 from the floor to score the same total.
Ally Weathers completed a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Lilly Kee helped out with 10 points.
