Offense stalls in top-three loss

HENDERSON — In a battle of heavyweights, the No. 2 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions went cold from the field, falling to the No. 3 Bethel Wildcats 60-46.

Close in the first few minutes, the Lady Lions (22-2, 7-2 MSC) fell behind when the Wildcats had a 10-0 run before Alaina Stiles' 3-pointer ended the drought. A triple later in the quarter from Ally Weathers made it a one-possession game, but a last-second jumper from the guests ended the first quarter with FHU trailing 19-14.

Bethel (22-3, 7-2 MSC) held the Lady Lions scoreless for the first three minutes of the second quarter until Jenna Satterly's 3-pointer sparked a six-point run by FHU. Neither team would score in the last 2:13 of the half with Bethel holding a 29-22 edge at intermission.

Satterly came out of the break with four points in under a minute with her 3-pointer at 7:27 knotting the game at 31-31. Later, Bethel began pulling away again with a 6-0 run before ending the quarter leading 45-38.

The Lady Lions ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, not scoring until 4:51 and not hitting a field goal until Weathers' 3-pointer at 2:08. FHU was unable to recover before the buzzer sounded the 60-46 defeat.

FHU shot 37% from the field while the Wildcats hit 51% of their shots.

Jenna Satterly and Ally Weathers shared a team-high 12 points while Lilly Kee added 10 points. Rachel Satterly had eight rebounds in the loss.
