HENDERSON — On the first day of a four-game series, the Freed-Hardeman University Lions swept the Culver-Stockton (Mo.) College Cougars on Saturday. After a 2-0 victory in game one, the second game ended with an 8-4 win.

The first game of the twinbill was a pitchers' duel with the first three innings being completed with just three hits between both clubs. The Lions (4-1) were able to take advantage of an errant throw in the bottom of the fourth inning to plate the two needed runs.
In the top halves of the innings, Culver-Stockton (1-1) could not figure out FHU's
Jackson Fitzwilson (2-0), who went the distance in a seven-strikeout shutout win. In his second victory of the season he allowed just two base hits.
Trace Anderson went 2-for-3 from the plate to lead FHU offensively.

Both runs crossed on the same play in the bottom of the fourth inning after
Brooks Jones led off the frame with a single, with
JJ Pruneau following with a walk. After a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position, a fielder's choice to attempt a double play was thrown errantly to allow both runs to cross.

In the second game of the day, the Lions (5-1) pounded out seven base hits with four of those being for extra bases. FHU plated all but one of their runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Hunter McLemore led off the frame with a long ball before
Brooks Jones doubled home a pair.
Culver-Stockton (1-2) strung together a trio of runs in the top of the seventh inning before adding a fourth with a solo homer in the ninth.
FHU had seven hits in the game with
Brooks Jones and
Hunter McLemore each leading with two base hits.
Jackson Hines (2-0) got the win after five innings of hitless work where he struck out five batters.

Brooks Jones to double home two runs. An error helped FHU plate another run before McLemore drove home a pair of runs. A double-steal plated the last of the seven-run inning.
