TEXARKANA, TENN. — Despite a strong effort in singles play, the Freed-Hardeman University Lions fell to the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles, 4-3.
The duo of Tom Marie and Daan van Miltenburg secured the lone doubles victory for the Lions (0-2) on the No. 3 court with a 7-6(8) win. Daniel Bolivar and Benjamin Ganem dropped a tight 7-5 decision on the No. 1 court, while Carlos Garcia and Martin Brena fell 6-4 on the No. 2 court as OWU claimed the doubles point.
In singles action, Ganem earned a hard-fought victory on the No. 1 court. After falling 6-2 in the opening set, he rallied with a 6-2 second-set win before securing the match in a 10-4 tiebreak over his OKWU (3-2) opponent. Garcia added a straight-set victory on the No. 5 court, 6-4, 6-3, and van Miltenburg was dominant on the No. 6 court with a 6-4, 6-4 win.
Marie forced a first-set tiebreak on the No. 2 court but came up short 7-6(8), 6-3. Dev Prakash battled in the No. 3 spot, dropping a 6-3 first set before falling in a second-set tiebreak 7-6(8). Bolivar was defeated on the No. 4 court 6-1, 6-3.
Despite taking three singles matches, the Lions were unable to overcome the early doubles deficit in the 4-3 decision.
