JACKSON, Tenn. — Despite competing in several close matches, the Freed-Hardeman University Lions fell to the No. 8/5 University of the Cumberlands Patriots, 7-0.
The Lions (0-4, 0-1 MSC) were unable to secure the doubles point as Dev Prakash and Tanmay Tomar dropped the No. 1 doubles match 6-2 to the nation's No. 14 duo. Daniel Bolivar and Benjamin Ganem fell 6-4 on the No. 2 court while Carlos Garcia and Martin Brena were defeated 6-3 at No. 3 doubles as Cumberland took the early lead.
In singles play, Ganem forced a third set on the No. 1 court against the Patriots' (7-3, 1-0 MSC) No. 23 player before falling 6-2, 2-6, 6-0. Prakash battled in the opening set but came up short 6-5, 6-2 at No. 2 singles while Tom Marie was defeated 6-4, 6-2 on the No. 3 court. Bolivar fell 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4 and Garcia dropped his match 6-1, 6-1 on the No. 5 court. Tomar was defeated 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 singles to round out the match.
