HENDERSON — The Freed-Hardeman University Lions earned a 5-2 victory over the NR/#49 Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) University Toppers on Tuesday afternoon at the Jackson Tennis Center.
The Lady Lions (3-10) swept doubles play to secure the point as Vanessa Avila Padilla and Suri Gomez picked up a 6-4 win on the No. 1 court while Morgan Brown and Elise Kruzan followed with a dominant 6-0 victory at No. 2. Anna Harder and Audrey Harder completed the sweep with a 7-5 win on the No. 3 court as Freed-Hardeman (4-10) took the early advantage.
Against the Toppers (4-8) in singles action, Gomez earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory on the No. 1 court while Brown picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3. Anna Harder battled through a three-set match to win 6-3, 1-6, 1-0(10-4) on the No. 4 court, and Audrey Harder secured a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6. Kruzan came up short in a tightly contested match at No. 2, falling 7-6(5), 6-1, while Kennley Kirk was defeated 6-0, 6-0 on the No. 5 court to round out the match.
The Lady Lions earned a 4-3 victory over the Georgetown Tigers in Mid-South Conference play on Saturday afternoon at the Lackey Tennis Center.
The Ladies (4-10, 1-4 MSC) were unable to secure the doubles point as Vanessa Avila Padilla and Suri Gomez fell 6-4 on the No. 1 court while Morgan Brown and Elise Kruzan dropped a tight 7-6(3) decision at No. 2. Anna Harder and Audrey Harder had the lone victory 6-0 on the No. 3 court as Georgetown took the early 1-0 lead.
FHU pulled away from Georgetown (0-16, 0-5 MSC) in singles action, after Suri Gomez earned a 7-5, 6-3 victory on the No. 1 court while Morgan Brown picked up a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6(7-2) win at No. 3. Elise Kruzan fell 6-1, 6-4 on the No. 2 court and Anna Harder was defeated 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4. Kennley Kirk evened the match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory on the No. 5 court before Audrey Harder secured the win for the Lions with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
