COLUMBIA, Ky. — The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions needed five innings to dispatch the Cumberland University Phoenix in the Mid-South Conference tournament. FHU connected for 10 hits with advance with an 11-0 win.
The fourth-seeded Lady Lions (22-20) put up a pair of huge innings in their first elimination game, including a six-run first inning.
Alivia Eggleston had the biggest swing of the day, connecting for a three-run blast.Â
As the No. 6 seed, Cumberland's (18-25) bullpen could not get comfortable in the circle with FHU recording 10 hits in 26 at-bats. Of the 11 runs scored by the Lady Lions, 10 were driven in from the plate.
Karli Quillin led the charge with a perfect 4-for-4 day, followed by
Alivia Eggleston's two hits. Those two hits from Eggleston drove in a team-high four runs.
While the bats were strong,
Katy Gartrell's (8-9) day in the circle held the Phoenix at bay. The sophomore got the complete game shutout with seven punchouts while allowing just four baserunners.
