The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions fell short in their season opener against LSU Alexandria, being outscored 3-0 with all three goals coming in the second half. Despite controlling the ball for much of the first half, the Lady Generals were unable to put the ball into the net. The Lady Lions defense held strong as the Lady Generals attempted 17 shots, seven of which were on the goal. Layla Olson, making her Lady Lion debut, was a brick wall saving all seven of those shots on goal. 

The second half was much of the same from a ball controlling standpoint, with the Lady Generals putting a lot of pressure on the Lady Lion defense. In the 52nd minute, Nelly Dallman was able to score the first goal of the match to put the Lady Generals on top. After that, the Lady Generals never gave up their lead, but would extend it late in the contest. Linnea Lundstroem would add a goal in the 72nd minute with an assist from Paula Saurez, and Abril Cobos scored the final goal assisted by Sacha Backus in the 82nd. 

Despite the loss, the Lady Lions will walk away from the contest with hope as they showed signs of improvement from last season. The defense held strong despite a lot of pressure from the LSU Alexandria offense, able to keep the ball away from Olson for much of the contest. Olson, a junior transfer from Dyersburg State Community College, made some incredible saves in the goal, and ended the game with 11. The offense was able to apply some pressure to the defense with Addison Bolema and Marta Martin both getting a shot on goal.

The Lady Lions will look to rest and regroup before their next game on August 28 in Lebanon, Tenn. against Madonna.
