The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions started off their home conference play against the #19 Cumberland University Phoenix. Both teams had early opportunities to attack in the first minute of the match, but Victoria Collins was the first to score in the match, just 29 seconds in. Collins added on with two more goals, in the 14th and 15th minute, to grab an early hat trick. Adelyn Drane increased their lead to 4-0 with a goal in the 23rd minute. Uxia Varela added on four goals before the half to give the Phoenix an 8-0 lead at the half. At half, the Phoenix had 12 shots, 10 on goal, as opposed to the Lady Lions just taking five shots and only one on goal.

The second half proved to be very different, as the Phoenix added only one goal by Lilly Adair in the 49th minute. Layla Olson was able to keep them at bay for the rest of the match, making nine saves in the second half, and giving up just the one goal. The Lady Lions were able to get a couple looks at the goal, but no shots were able to fall. 

The Phoenix finished with 29 shots, 20 on goal, and nine goals, with six corner kicks. Freed-Hardeman ended the game with eight shots, one on goal, 11 saves, and were able to catch the Cumberland attack offside 10 times.

The Lady Lions will have an eight-day rest before traveling to Pikeville, Ky. to take on Pikeville on September 26 at 11 am.
