Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions soccer went on the road to take on the Bears of Pikeville University on Saturday morning, September 26. The Bears were quick on the attack by taking 3 shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of the match, but all 3 were saved by the Lady Lions starting keeper Layla Olson. FHU was able to take only 2 shots in the first half, with 1 being on goal. In the 41st minute, Sara Ritter was able to break the shutout with her ninth goal of the season, assisted by Iselle Reding, to take a 1-0 lead into the half. Olson ended the half with those 3 saves before being relieved by Maria Paz Mora Silva in the second half.
Not far into the second half, Cash Harris tied it back at 1 a piece for her second goal of the season in the 51st minute. Ruby D'Arcy was able to score her first goal of the season for the Bears to break the tie in the 65th and Jayla Boyd sealed the deal with her fifth goal of the season in the 81st, assisted by Anna Dudas, to clinch the win 3-1. Paz Mora Silva made 1 save in the second half. The Lady Lions ended the game with a .750 on-goal percentage, with 3 of their 4 shots being on target.
The Lady Lions will return to conference action in their next match, traveling to Mackenzie, Tenn. to take on Bethel University on Friday, October 2 at 2:00pm.
