The Lady Lions and Skyhawks got off to a quick start with Point getting a shot off within a minute of the start, and the Lady Lions getting two shots in the first four minutes. The difference maker in the first half would be an Isabel Croke goal in the seventh minute with an assist from Morakane Mokhothu! The first goal of the season for the Lady Lions would be the only goal in the first half. Despite Point having 8 shots, three of which coming from Naomi Tilley, Maria Paz Mora Silva put on a show in the goal, not allowing one past her. The Lady Lions implemented a high backline defensive strategy that paid dividends as Point had five offside penalties called in the first half. The Lady Lions were able to put a lot of offensive pressure on the Skyhawk defense putting up six shots, half of which were on goal including the Croke goal.

The second half of action resumed with some kick attempts on the goal by both teams but neither team was able to score until the 58th minute when Mia Boitel scored for the Lady Skyhawks with an assist from Naomi Tilley to tie the game at 1 a piece. For the rest of the match, neither team held a strong possession advantage with offensive attacks from both teams switching back and forth. The ultimate decider came in the 83rd minute when the Lady Skyhawks were able to score their second, and final, goal of the game. Lady Lion keeper Maria Paz Mora Silva was taken out while making a diving block on a Naomi Tilley shot. In the process, the rebound fell right at the feet of Mia Boitel who was able to net another goal, taking advantage of an open net with the keeper on the ground. Down by 1 score with under seven minutes to play, the Lady Lions had to put the pedal to the medal and try and even the scoring. Despite three shots in the final three minutes, the Lady Lions were unable to draw even and walked away with a 2-1 defeat.

The Lady Lions will return to action on Tuesday, September 8 as they start conference play against #13-ranked Lindsey Wilson on the road in Columbia, Ky.
