Box Score 2 JACKSON, Tenn. - After a monster week at the plate, Freed-Hardeman's
Leo Alvarez has been named the
TranSouth Co-Player of the Week with Lyon (Ark.) College's Sam Neal for the week
ending April 26, 2009.
Alvarez, a 5-foot-10 senior catcher
from Miami, Fla., helped the Lions to a 5-1 week. The
week included two wins over TranSouth leader Cumberland (Tenn.)
University, NCAA DII Christian Brothers (Tenn.) and Lindsey Wilson
(Ky.). Alvarez played in five games, posting a .579 average (11-19)
with seven runs, four homeruns, and 13 RBI. He also recorded five walks
and posted a 1.211 slugging percentage. Alvarez recorded at least one
hit in all five games, including three hits in two of the games. He hit
a game-winning walk-off homerun in a 7-6 win over Cumberland, then hit two homeruns in the same inning the next day.
It is the second time this season that Alvarez has received the award.
