Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lions used a three-run fifth inning and got two scoreless innings from
Derek Williford in his first appearance of the year in taking a 6-4 win over McKendree (Ill.) University on Friday afternoon at Carnes Field.
The Lions trailed 4-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth before
Brian Bullard's double scored
Derek Bush, who reached on an error to lead off the inning, to tie the game. Three batters later,
Robert Prieto singled in the go-ahead run.
Williford then entered the game in the top of the sixth in relief of
Charlie Overturf (1-0) and retired six of the eight batters he faced, allowing one hit and striking out four in two innings to earn the save.
The Bearcats led early, getting three runs in the first two innings, but FHU tied the game with runs in the third and the fourth. McKendree then retook the lead in the top of the fifth with a solo homerun by Joe Dickman before the Lions scored their decisive runs.
Bullard (5) and
Noslen Labrada (3) each hit solo shots for Freed-Hardeman, who improves to 5-4 on the season. Bullard and Prieto had two hits and two RBI apiece.
