Box Score 2 NEW ALBANY, Miss. - The Freed-Hardeman Lions exploded for 10 runs in the first inning, all coming with two outs, and cruised to a series-opening 13-3 win over Blue Mountain (Miss.) College on Friday afternoon.
Joe Mike's single started the two-out rally as the Lions saw 10 straight runners reach base. Mike, Jake Todd and Kyle Dearing all had two-run hits for FHU (32-6-1, 3-1) with Mike's double capping off the inning.
Mike also added a two-run double in the seventh, and Connor Kohlscheen scored the Lions' other run in the fifth on a wild pitch.
Chris Hatfield (6-2) went the distance to pick up the win, allowing three runs - two earned - on seven hits while striking out six.
Justin Mackey extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the first inning. He has now hit safely in 28 of his last 29 outings. Mike went 3-for-5 with four RBIs while Mackey, Ryan Huber, Garrett Ferguson and Ryan Grigaitis all had two hits each.
The series concludes with a Saturday double-header starting at noon.
