Box Score 2 HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lions got another strong showing from Jack Coleman followed by a big offensive showing, and it added up to a double-header sweep over Park (Mo.) University on Monday afternoon.
Coleman didn't get a decision in the opener, but he worked 6.1 innings and allowed only one run. That run came in the seventh, tying the game at 1-1, before Brandon Guske entered in relief and worked out of the inning.
Griffin Siebert then delivered in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off, bases-loaded single to give the Lions a 2-1 win. Guske (5-2) earned the win in relief.
Zac Carter put the Lions on the board in the second inning with a solo home run, his first of the season.
The Lions (13-5, 2-2) did it with offense in the second game, pounding out 17 hits on the way to a 15-8 win.
FHU busted the game open with six runs in the second, highlighted by a three-run home run by Garrett Ferguson. The Pirates, though, fought back with three in the third and one in the fourth to chase Lion starter Beau Caviness. But Freed-Hardeman again had a big inning in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four times, then added two more in the sixth.
Jordan Newby (1-0) earned the win in relief of Caviness, allowing one run over 3.2 innings. Jared Humphry worked the final two innings, allowing two runs - one earned - on one hit.
Siebert continued his big day in game two, going 4-for-5. Ferguson and Bob Seda both went 3-for-4.
NOTES AND NUMBERS: Coleman's run allowed in the seventh broke a streak of 15 consecutive scoreless innings tossed by the junior…With Carter's and Ferguson's home runs today, eight different Lions have left the yard this season…Guske's win in relief was his seventh decision in seven appearances this season.
