SETTING THE STAGE
Following two convincing wins this past weekend over Williams Baptist (Ark.) College, the Freed-Hardeman Lion baseball team reached 30 wins for a fifth straight season. The Lions enter Tuesday's match-up coming off a solid 16-14 win on Friday followed by a 14-2 victory in the opening game on Saturday to reach the 30-win benchmark.
Brandon Guske (8-2) continued his solid play on the mound in the first game of the series Friday as he picked up the win after working seven innings and allowing just seven hits while striking out six for his eighth victory of the season.
Garrett Ferguson led the Lions at the plate and he couldn't have been much better, as he went 3-for-4 on the night with a double, a triple and a home run to contribute four RBI's for the Lions in the win.
Zac Carter was also solid at the plate as he went 3-for-5 and added two doubles and two RBI's. Chase Young and Nate Van Nortwick also took a liking to the other side of the fence as Young went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run while Van Nortwick connected on his first home run of the season to help the Lions pull away in convincing fashion.
Nolan Huber (6-1) picked up the win in the opening game Saturday as he worked six full innings, allowing just three hits while striking out three for his sixth win of the season.
Chase Young led the Lions at the plate, as he went 2-for-3 on the day and had two RBI. Nate Van Nortwick also put up a solid performance at the plate as he reached base on 3-of-4 attempts and pounded out four RBI in the blowout victory.
