SETTING THE STAGE
FHU (34-12, 16-5 AMC) enters the weekend coming off a 9-6 loss at Bethel (Tenn.) University. Jared Humphry (4-2) suffered the loss after working two and two-thirds innings and allowing eight hits and eight runs. Humphry came in relief of Jack Coleman, who worked two innings and allowed one hit.
FHU (34-12, 16-5 AMC) would have all the momentum to start the game as two runs crossed the plate in the second inning along with one run in the third inning to give the Lions an early 3-0 lead.
Bethel would fight back in the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs of their own, as Bradley Gill scored off an infield single by Austin Brenner while Jon Pyles crossed the plate off a misplayed grounder by Nate Van Nortwick to close the gap at the 3-2 mark.
The Lions would add a run of their own in the top of the fifth, as Pete Trollinger homered over the right field fence to extend FHU's lead midway through the game. However, the lead would be short lived as the Wildcats would cross the plate four times in the bottom half of the fifth to take their first lead of the game.
The Lions would attempt a late rally in the top of the ninth inning as two runs would cross the plate, but it would not be enough as the Wildcats came away with the 9-6 victory.
