SETTING THE STAGE

FHU (27-9, 11-4 AMC) enters tonight's match-up coming off two wins and a loss to Lyon College this past weekend. FHU pitcher Brandon Guske limited the Scots to just two hits while Zac Carter had no trouble at the plate, pounding out two home-runs in the game to lead the Lions to a 9-2 victory over the Scots Friday night at Carnes Field.

Guske (7-2) wasn't alone in regard to shutting down the Scots as Carter, a senior from Memphis, Tenn., put forth his fair share of punishment to the Lyon pitching staff, going 3-for-5 at the plate with two home-runs and a double, to give the opposition fits the entire night. Carter racked up four RBI's on the night, which contributed to nearly half of FHU's runs in the game.

Several other Lion players stepped up at the plate in the victory, including Pete Trollinger who also went 3-for-5 on the day and contributed a double and two RBI's while Chase Young went 2-for-5 and contributed an RBI of his own to continue his solid play at the plate.

Guske picked up the win in the series opener after working all nine innings and allowing just two hits while striking out 10 for his seventh victory of the season.

In the Saturday series between FHU and Lyon College, the Lions picked up a split as they fell 7-4 in the opening game, but battled back in the nightcap with a 14-6 victory, thanks to a trio of home runs by Garrett Ferguson.

The Lions would get things started quickly in the opening game with a four-run first inning to jump out to an early lead. However, four runs would be all that crossed the plate for FHU in the game, which would not be enough. Lyon College would battle back after falling behind early, as they used a three-run fourth inning along with a one-run fifth inning to even things up at four apiece midway through the game.

Another run in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh inning for the Scots would be all they needed to pull away with a 7-4 lead and take the opening game of the Saturday series.

The Lions would rebound in the nightcap as they pounded out 12 hits and used three home runs by Ferguson to take the final game of the series with a 14-6 victory.

Ferguson led the Lions at the plate with his trio of home runs, as he pounded out seven RBI's to contribute to half of FHU's runs. Zac Carter was also solid at the plate as he went 3-for-5 and added a home run of his own along with a double and three RBI's to continue his hot streak at the plate.

Jordan Woelfle also connected on a home run in the game to add to FHU's lead and continue the pounding at the plate. Jack Coleman (3-2) picked up the win after working six and two-third innings and allowing just eight hits while striking out six.
