COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion Soccer team had seven players find the back of the net Saturday on the road at Stephens College, as the Lady Lions picked up a 7-0 shutout in Columbia, Mo.
Nele Kirsch got the scoring drive started for the Lady Lions, as she found the back of the net in the 19th minute to put FHU up 1-0 early in the match. Avis Van Kampen and Hannah Bilger also found the back of the net in the first half to put FHU up 3-0 entering the break.
The offense for the Lady Lions (6-7-1, 4-6 AMC); however, was just getting started, as they fired in four more goals in the second half to make a comeback unlikely for the Stars (3-12, 2-7 AMC). Four different players found the back of the net in the second frame including Maria Espinoza Castillo (69th minute), Sam Clymer (72nd minute), Melissa Ross (83rd minute) and MacKenzie Wrather (89th minute).
MacKenzie Wrather and McCall Decker also did a solid job of finding their teammates, as each player dished out two assists in the match-up while Avis Van Kampen dished out one assist in the win.
The Lady Lions out-shot the Stars 37-4 in the match-up and limited Stephens College to just two shots on goal in the win. FHU, on the other hand, peppered 20 shots on goal to keep Stephens keeper Maci Marshall on her heels the entire afternoon. Erin Douglas was solid in goal for the Lady Lions, as she posted a clean sheet while saving both of the shots she faced in the win.
With the win, the Lady Lions move to 6-7-1 on the season and 4-6 in conference play. Stephens College falls to 3-12 on the season and 2-7 in AMC play with the loss.
UP NEXT: The Freed-Hardeman soccer teams are back in action Thursday, October 25th, as they host Lyon College for a conference match-up. The Lady Lions kick things off first at 5:00 PM followed by the men's match at 7:00 PM at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex. Thursday's match-up will also serve as Senior night, where the senior members of both teams will be honored.
