LEWISTON, IDAHO - The Freed-Hardeman Lion Baseball team saw their 10 game winning streak come to an end Tuesday evening, as they suffered an 8-1 loss to Southeastern (Fla.) in the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 46-15 on the season and move to the elimination bracket, where they will face Georgia Gwinnett College Wednesday for a 5:00 PM Central Standard Time match-up.
Southeastern lived up to their name, as they came out on fire to take an early lead in the match-up with four runs in the third inning. From there, the Fire pushed one more run in the fourth inning and three more in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach for the Lions.
Despite the loss, Wes Brooks and De'Mikyle Holmes each recorded multi-hit games while Griffin Siebert went 1-for-4 with a double. The Lions scattered just six hits in the match-up, as Southeastern starter Feliz Dieguez allowed just one earned run while striking out six FHU batters. Southeastern, on the other hand, had no trouble at the plate, as they pounded out 10 hits and plated eight runs to take the convincing victory.
Austin Steel got the start for the Lions on a shortened week and worked 7 and 2/3 innings and allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs while striking out four batters. Selby Selby provided a 1/3 of an inning of relief and retired the only batter he faced.
