MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After losing 3-2 in game three of the four-game series, the No. 2 Lions (2-2) were able to take game four 3-2 over No. 4 Faulkner (2-2) in extra innings thanks to an RBI single from Zach Sanders in extra innings.
The Eagles went up 1-0 in the fourth inning, but in the sixth, the Lions took the lead after scoring two runs, highlighted by an RBI double from Josh Sears that hit off the top of the center field wall.
Faulkner would score one run to tie in the bottom half of the sixth, and after no runs came across in the seventh and final inning, the game was forced to go into extras.
That's when Sanders broke the tie with his long ball, and Tyrek White would shut the Eagles down in the bottom half to earn the save.
True freshman Alex Huey out of Columbia Academy made his Lions debut on the mound in the final game and earned the win after striking out three batters in five and one-thirds innings pitched.
Sears went 3-for-4 in the contest, and Collin McPherson went 2-for-3 out of the designated hitter spot.
In the first game of the afternoon, Faulkner jumped out to a 3-0 lead after four innings. In the seven inning contest, the Lions made a strong attempt at a rally after scoring two in the top half of the final inning, but the Eagles were able to keep them at bay and secure the win.
Cam Palmeter and Cody McSwain each went 1-for-1 as pinch hitters, and Bryce Lester drove in the two runs in the seventh.
The Lions will be back at home on February 8 and 9 when they face off against No. 22 Indiana Institute of Technology in a three-game series. There will only be one game on Friday starting at 4 p.m. with a double-header on Saturday beginning at 12 noon.
