WESTWEGO, La. – The Lions (27-9, 15-2 AMC) capped off their trip in Louisiana with two tough losses to Loyola University (15-18, 0-12 SSAC) on Tuesday evening.
Game one of the double-header was a close game, with the Wolfpack coming out on top 4-2.
The visiting Lions jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, with only one of those runs being earned.
After Bryce Lester hit a leadoff single, Collin Baber moved him to third on the following at-bat with a double. Josh Sears followed Baber by reaching base due to an error on the third baseman, allowing Lester to score.
That moved Baber to third base, and Collin McPherson advanced him home when he grounded out to the shortstop.
The Wolfpack scored its four runs in the bottom of the third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run hit by Allen Dennis.
Landon Sewell went the full six innings on the mound and struck out four batters.
Game two was all Loyola, as the home squad was able to get past the visitors by a 7-2 score.
Loyola scored in all but the third and fourth innings, including three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. The Lions scored two runs in the top of the seventh in an attempted rally, but would fall short.
Hunter Beecham was the first run in the top half of the following inning after coming on as a pinch runner in place of Will McCall when he hit a one-out single. Beecham advanced to second on a wild pitch and then to third on a second one.
He later scored when Cody McSwain advanced on a walk and the ball got away from Loyola's catcher. McSwain would later come around to give the Lions their second and final run after Dylan Lott brought him in on a single.
The Lions will be off until Monday when they travel to Martin Methodist to take on the Redhawks (18-13, 5-6 SSAC) in a double-header. Game one is slated for 3 p.m.
