HENDERSON, Tenn. – In just a single, nine-inning matchup that was a road game on the original schedule, the Lions (14-4, 6-0 AMC) were able to knock off Blue Mountain College (9-11-1, 2-1 SSAC) 5-1 on Tuesday afternoon to sweep the season series with the Toppers 3-0.

The Lions jumped on the board in the bottom half of the first inning when leading RBI man Collin McPherson drove in Bryce Lester on a sacrifice fly to center field, giving the senior first baseman 13 RBIs on the season.

The Toppers were able to get that run back in the top of the third inning after Nolan Stephens hit a leadoff double and was brought home on an error by McPherson off the bat of Destin Payton.

It wasn't long, though, before the Lions were able to jump back in front, when they added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

First, it was Collin Baber – courtesy running for catcher James Dodd who hit a leadoff double – who scored after stealing his 17th base on the season when he took third base and then crossed home on a wild pitch.

The second run cross the plate when Lester scored his second run when he came around off a single by Josh Sears.

Freed-Hardeman was able to put the game out of reach in the bottom of the eighth with two more runs, first by Baber again, pinch running for Dodd off his second double of the contest. Baber stole his second bag of the game, his 18th on as many attempts of the season, and he scored off another sacrifice fly, this time by Lester.

Senior outfielder De'Mikyle Holmes hit a single and was brought in by Sears who hit a double on the ensuing at-bat.

Senior transfer Tyson Campbell got the start on the mound and became the third straight Lions pitcher to go a complete game.

He struck out 12 batters and only gave up four hits in the contest. He didn't give up one base on balls.

The Lions will travel to Ashland, Missouri, on Wednesday to take on Columbia College in a three-game AMC series starting on Thursday. The series will be played on the turf field of Southern Boone High School, and game one is set to start at 11 a.m.

Games two and three will be played as a double-header on Friday, with game one set to start at 10 a.m.
