Lions fall in season opener

Taylor Hodges, Sports Information Director

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Lions tennis team had a tough time on Friday night against a sound Lindenwood University-Belleville, falling 5-0 to the Lynx at the Jackson Country Club indoor courts.

The Lions' first two matches had to be cancelled due to weather and wet courts, and to avoid a third straight cancellation, they moved yesterday's match to the indoor courts in Jackson, where matches didn't finish until after midnight.

The Lynx jumped on the Lions early on, first in doubles matches, with Cade Pressnell and Emmanuel Quintana falling 8-3, Aleksa Pesic and Daniel Peinado going down 8-2, and Jose Andrada and Caleb Johnson losing 8-0.

Pesic, the freshman out of Serbia, filled the No. 1 slot for the Lions, but came up short in his singles match, losing 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets.

Pressnell, playing the No. 2, had a strong match going on the other end, but he wouldn't be able to finish after Quintana fell in his No. 3 match 6-2, 6-3.

The Lions will take on William Woods University at home on Friday at 1 p.m.
