HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Freed-Hardeman University women's soccer team (2-2, 1-0 AMC) defeated Stephen's College (3-4, 0-1 AMC) 9-0 to open conference play on Saturday afternoon.
It was the home opener for the Lady Lions, and they did not disappoint, as they put together a full-team effort to take down the Stars. Senior Sam Clymer got things started for the Lady Lions, as she notched a hat trick in the first half, scoring in the 13th,19th and 22nd minute. MacKenzie Wrather would also score in the 43rd minute to give the Lady Lions a 4-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Lady Lions would pick up where they left off, as Sophomore Hannah Bilger would score two goals in the 48th and 59th minutes to give the Lady Lions a 6-0 lead. Nele Kirsch and Morgan Leighton scored their first goals of the season, as Kirsch scored in the 67th minute and the Leighton the 72nd minute before Wrather scored her second goal of the game to finish off Stephens 9-0.
The Lady Lions controlled possession for the majority of the game as they outshot Stephens 30 to 1. In the two-game winning streak, the team has a goal differential of 18-0.
The Lady Lions will take a two-game road trip to take on AMC opponents Lyon College and Park University before returning to the Josh Riley Soccer Complex on September 27 against Columbia College.
