CORINTH, Miss. – While the games weren't played at Carnes Field, the Lions (2-0) took care of business in their season and “home” openers on Friday after taking down Northwest Ohio (3-2) 6-5 and 7-0 in the first two games of a four-game weekend series.

It was two newcomers who made early names for themselves in both wins for the No. 8 Lions. In game one, freshman Drew Robertson pinch hit for Christian Busby in the bottom of the final inning with the Lions down 5-4 and the bases loaded with no outs. Robertson lined a pitch over the center fielder's head bringing in the tying and game-winning run to give the Lions the first win of the night.

In game two, the Lions got out to an early 2-0 lead, but things opened up in the bottom of the fourth inning when junior transfer Cole Nichols blasted a grand slam after one run had already crossed the plate to give FHU the 7-0 lead, which they would hold until the game came to a close.

All-American Josh Sears picked things up right where he left them last season, blasting the second pitch he saw in game one over the wall for a three-run home run. Will McCall brought in the fourth run of that game before the Racers took the lead, giving Robertson his chance at the walk-off to end the game.

In game two, Cody McSwain brought in the first run of the game in the bottom of the third with a single that plated Zach Sanders. The second run came across in the same inning thanks to Robertson drawing a walk with bases loaded, allowing Sears to come home.

Jacob Sawyers got the start in game one and went five innings with four strikeouts. Landon Sewell came in to start the sixth inning and earned the win.

In game two, preseason All-American Alex Huey went the full seven innings, striking out 11 batters.

Games three and four are scheduled to begin at 12 noon on Saturday at Corinth High School's field.
