Box Score GWINNETT, Ga. – The Lions baseball team (2-5) finished the three-game series against No. 3 Georgia Gwinnett (4-2) with an 8-3 loss on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions scored first in the game after Josh Sears hit a single to right field to score Zach Sanders in the top of the first inning. The Grizzlies, though, were able to answer and take the lead in the bottom half of the inning with a two-out, two-run home run.
Gwinnett added three more runs in the bottom of the third, but the Lions were able to score in the top of the fourth and sixth innings to make it a two-run game thanks to two separate RBIs by Hunter Beecham.
Gwinnett would add three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach and send the Lions home with a series sweep.
Beecham went 2-for-4 in the contest with his two RBIs. Connor Creasy and Jack Christian combined for 10 strikeouts on the mound.
The No. 9 Lions will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Blue Mountain for a double-header. Game one is set to start at 12 noon.
