Lions bounce back with doubleheader sweep over Wolf Pack

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The No. 9 Lions (4-5) bounced back on Saturday, opening up a four-game series at Loyola University (5-5) with two wins, knocking off the Wolf Pack 8-1 in game one and 4-1 in game two.

The bats were hot in game one for the Lions, scoring their eight runs on nine hits in just seven innings, highlighted by a two-out, two-run home run by Hunter Beecham in the fourth inning.

Beecham added two more RBIs in the fifth inning, driving in two of the four runs in the inning with a single to shallow center field. Von Watson had a strong outing at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Beau Simpson, Riley Perks an Dylan Lott each brought in runs in the win.

Jacob Sawyers continued to be a strikeout machine for the Lions, tossing 10 K's in a complete game with only two walks.

The Lions picked right up where they left off in game one with another 10 hits, scoring four runs in the win.

Beecham added another RBI on the day in the fourth inning, driving in DeJhard Kimbrough with a single. Zach Sanders went 3-for-4 with two RBIs – scoring Beecham in the third inning and another scoring Brady Harris in the ninth.

Alex Huey went seven innings on the bump for the Lions, striking out seven batters. Landon Sewell earned the two-inning save in the win.

The Lions and Wolf Pack will be back in action on Sunday with another doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 noon.
