Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SHREVEPORT, La. – The No. 9 Lions (2-0) got their season off to the perfect start on Friday with a 2-1 win over (RV) Tabor College (1-2) and 11-7 against No. 6 LSU-Shreveport (1-2).

The first matchup against Tabor was a pitching defensive clinic, especially by the Lions, who had Jacob Sawyers on the mound. The senior went on to throw 12 strike outs in seven innings while giving up just five hits, one run and one walk.

Landon Sewell came in the game in the eighth inning to earn the two-inning save. He struck out three of the seven batters he faced while only giving up a single hit.

Beau Simpson and Dalton Lankford each had a 2-for-3 outing, and Zayne Willems went 2-for-4 in his FHU debut. Zach Sanders and Brady Harris each scored for the Lions.

While the Lions only needed two runs to win their first game, they put up 11 in the second game against national powerhouse LSU-Shreveport.

The Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Pilots were able to erase that lead in the bottom half. But the offense for FHU kept rolling when they scored three runs in the top of the second.

LSU-S would respond again with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third to make a a one-run game, but a five spot from the Lions in the sixth and two more in the seventh put the game to bed.

LSU-S scored two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, but the Lions bullpen and defense held strong in the eighth and ninth to earn the win over the No. 6 team in the nation.

Dom Pisano went 3-for-6 in the win with four RBI's and a double. Willems had two RBIs in a 1-for-4 outing, and Von Watson had two RBI's and two hits in his Lions debut. Sanders and Lankford each scored three runs.

Preseason All-American Alex Huey earned the win after going five innings and striking out 10 batters.

Drew Robertson made his mound debut for the Lions after playing in the outfield his freshman year and threw one inning of relief, followed by three strong innings from Tyler Duskin to finish the game out.

The Lions will be back in action on Saturday when they face off against Tabor College at 10 a.m., followed by another matchup against LSU-Shreveport at 1 p.m.
