Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Lions baseball team (11-8, 6-1 MSC) completed the three-game sweep over Pikeville (4-13, 2-7 MSC) on Saturday with a 10-0 run rule in eight innings.
After two scoreless innings for both teams, Beau Simpson broke the stalemate with a grand slam, the second one of the series after Josh Sears hit on in game one on Friday night.
The Lions were held scoreless in the fourth inning before adding two more in the fifth to make it 6-0 when Simpson drove in his fifth run of the game, scoring Hunter Beecham and Will McCall scored on a fielder's choice.
The Lions added their final four runs to complete the run rule in the bottom of the eighth after Beecham and Zach Sanders were each brought in on walks, Von Watson hit a sacrifice fly to score McCall and Cristian Busby drove in Caleb Molo.
Freshman Colton Huntt earned his first win on the season after tossing five shutout innings and striking out five batter. Landon Sewell came on in relief and finished the game with four strikeouts in three innings.
The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Blue Mountain in a doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
