Box Score GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The No. 19 Lions (13-9, 7-1 MSC) knocked of Georgetown (14-8, 2-2 MSC) 4-1 in game one of a three-game slate on Friday, extending their conference win streak to five games.
The Lions did all of their damage in the first two innings, scoring two runs in each. It started with a Will McCall double, scoring Zach Sanders to take a 1-0 lead, followed by an error by the Georgetown second baseman to score McCall.
In the top of the second inning, Christian Busby scored on a Sanders batted ball, and McCall brought Dylan Lott in to score on another error by the second baseman.
The Tigers scored a run in the sixth inning to avoid the shutout, but the Lions would hold them to that single run to win the game.
Jacob Sawyers continued his dominating year on the mound, going seven innings while striking out 11 Georgetown batters.
The Lions and Tigers will be back in action on Saturday in doubleheader action to close out the series. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12 noon central time.
