Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Lions baseball team (25-21) knocked off Georgetown College (33-17) 4-1 on Friday to advance in the Mid-South Conference Tournament.
It was a stellar performance on the mound for Preseason All-American Alex Huey, who struck out 10 batters in eight innings, his third straight double-digit strikeout game.
The Lions scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. They were able to load the bases with no outs, and a sacrifice fly from Beau Simpson to score Zach Sanders, followed by a two-run double from Von Watson and a passed ball that scored Josh Sears led to the early lead.
The Lions made it 4-0 in the bottom of the third after Simpson reached on a wild pitch. DeJhard Kimbrough entered as a pinch runner, and he was brought around by Watson on a single, his third RBI of the game.
Huey held the Tigers scoreless for seven innings before Georgetown was able to get on the board in the eighth inning, but he was able to force two groundouts and get his 10th strikeout of the game to maintain his lead.
Austin Steel came on in the ninth to close things out for the Lions, and he was able to sit the Tigers down in order, with one strikeout, to get the save and give the Lions the win in their first game in Bowling Green.
The two-seeded Lions will face off against top-seeded University of the Cumberlands on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
