Box Score The Freed-Hardeman University Lions (4-2) took Game 3 of the weekend series against the University of St. Francis (1-2) Saturday evening.
Tyler Duskin got the nod to start for the Lions. He pitched quickly and efficiently in the first to get the Lions in the dugout. The Lions jumped ahead early on a lead-off triple from Christian Presley followed by an RBI ground-rule double from Will McCall. The score after the first was 1-0.
Duskin again pitched ahead in the count and posted another 1-2-3 inning. The Lions were unable to get anything going in the second.
Duskin was on a roll on the mound and picked off the third out to end the inning. The Lions offense was able to scratch another run across the plate from an RBI single from Zach Sanders. At the end of the third, the score was 2-0.
The Lions made great plays behind their hurlers and held St. Francis to zero runs in the fourth. In the bottom part of the inning, the Lions added another insurance run and brought the score to 3-0.
Once again, Duskin worked quickly and let his defense make plays behind him. The Lions threatened to add more runs but were stopped after a batter's interference call and a pickoff at second.
Duskin continued his stellar outing and collected his seventh strikeout in the top of the sixth. The Lions extended their lead with a 2-RBI double from none other than McCall. The score heading into the seventh was 5-0.
Duskin surrendered a run in the final inning but limited St. Francis to only one. The final score was 5-1. Duskin earned the win as he pitched a complete 7 inning game allowing only 1 run on 5 hits, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts.
The Lions will return to action tomorrow afternoon against St. Francis at 1:00.
